UNICEF spokesperson describes first-hand perspective of Gaza famine

UNICEF Australia global spokesperson James Elder has spoken about the reality of children impacted by famine in Gaza during a speech at Canberra’s National Press Club.

SBS Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson asked about what he saw on the ground following strict aid blockades into Gaza by Israel earlier this year.

In August, a UN-backed committee determined Gaza City and surrounding areas were officially suffering from famine, saying 514,000 Palestinians were being impacted at the time. Israel rejected the findings from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Famine Review Committee.
