Syrian president visits Donald Trump at the White House

US President Donald Trump has held a landmark behind-closed-doors meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House.

Al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda commander until recently sanctioned by Washington as a foreign terrorist, has reportedly signed Syria up to an international alliance against the self-proclaimed Islamic State group.

He later appeared on Fox News where he was asked whether he held “regrets” about the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Note: While the meeting between Trump and al-Sharaa took place in Washington DC, the vision of the Syrian president playing basketball with top US generals was released on 8 November ahead of the meeting from an undisclosed location.
