ABC managing director Hugh Marks says the public broadcaster spent $2.5 million in external costs to fund its defence in the unlawful termination case of journalist Antoinette Lattouf.
Lattouf was sacked from her casual role on ABC Radio Sydney’s Mornings program over a social media post about the war in Gaza in 2023.
In Senate estimates on Wednesday, Marks said there were “many failings” in Lattouf’s dismissal and that it was “not a good reflection on the organisation”.
The ABC was ordered to pay a $150,000 fine for the illegal sacking of Lattouf last month, in addition to the $70,000 in damages the journalist was previously awarded.
