“Just know whatever dark period you’re going through, one day, I guess it will make sense,” said Geelong midfielder Bailey Smith, as he revealed he spent a month in a mental health facility last season as he struggled to deal with his time on the sidelines while recovering from an ACL injury.
Smith, who was named on the first All-Australian team of his career, at the AFL Awards said: “If you have an injury, you have to rehab it in the gym or whatever. If you have an injury mentally, it’s just rehabbing it and keeping on top of that.”
