Alison Lester on how the natural world inspires her bestselling picture books

Alison Lester’s illustrations are instantly recognisable – softly grainy drawings of cheerful characters, animals and natural landscapes. ‘Everything I do looks a little bit like a stuffed toy,’ says Lester, who has four books in the running for Australia’s best picture book, including Magic Beach and Kissed by the Moon.
