In May 2023 a group of orcas, possibly orchestrated by one traumatised killer whale now known as ‘White Gladis’, had begun attacking boats off the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Some speculated that her pod-mates had learned this ‘vengeful’ behaviour from her, but is the transfer of this knowledge even possible? Currently there isn’t an experiment where we can test this with orcas, but similar research using crows, suggests this idea may not be so far fetched.
