Leanne’s son Leohn spent three weeks in hospital after getting into a box of Aussie Clean Drain Cleaner bought from The Reject Shop, which his parents say contained individual silver sachets that could simply be torn open.
Leanne told Yahoo Lifestyle that without their knowing Leohn had “put [the product] onto the hot chips he had left over from dinner like seasoning.”
Leanne’s partner Ben said that after Leohn ingested the granules “The flesh was like melting off from inside his mouth…I had to give him CPR before the ambulance arrived.”
Leohn had to spend about three weeks in hospital before he was discharged.
Four months later, the Aussie Clean Drain Cleaner was recalled for not meeting Australian safety requirements for poisonous substances, and as Ben pointed out, “Normally, you need child-proof twist-lock caps or something, but this was just in a cardboard box.”
The Reject Shop told Yahoo Lifestyle that it is “absolutely committed” to providing safe products, and urged shoppers to follow the recall’s instructions.
