Hugo, the 101kg Great Dane, was battling an aggressive bone cancer when his owners decided to take him on one last lap around the block.

Hugo’s owner Sarah told The Hot Hits with Nic & Loren, “I thought, ‘Even if we get one or two people to give him a Schmacko, he would be so happy.’”

But Sarah was shocked to see that on the day, “Both sides of the street [were filled]. We didn’t know who to see first.”

“People had called their friends and [had] camping chairs set up on their drivewats.”

“It was unbelievable… It was beautiful.”

Sarah said that it normally took her 10 to 15 minutes to complete their usual lap around the block, but Hugo’s last lap took them two hours because of the massive turnout.

“In a world that can feel so heavy and bleak sometimes, it’s so heartwarming to know that people are so inherently good, and he had the best last day.”
