Australia expels Iranian ambassador after evidence Iran directed anti-semitic attacks

Prime minister Anthony Albanese told reporters in Canberra that Iran’s ambassador has been expelled from Australia and the country’s intelligence agency has evidence the Iranian government directed at least two antisemitic attacks in the community since 7 October 2023. ‘They were attempts to undermine social cohesion and sow discord in our community. It is totally unacceptable, and the Australian government is taking strong and decisive action in response,’ Albanese said. The Iranian ambassador to Australia, Ahmad Sadeghi, will be expelled and Australia’s embassy in Tehran will suspend operations. Albanese also said it will list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC as a terrorist organisation in response to Asio’s investigation.
