Australia’s Tiwi Islands, situated north of Darwin, has been named the newest Indigenous Protected Area.
It means more than 700,000 hectares of land, spanning across the Tiwi Islands, will now be added to the national parks and reserves system.
It’s a major milestone for Traditional Owners in Australia, and is expected to not only help meet environmental commitments but also provide benefits to local communities.
