Days after widespread violence in Bangladesh, Dhaka remains on a knife edge, with the fear of another flare up. Earlier today, another radical leader, Motaleb Shikder, was killed by masked men. The violence last week was triggered after the death of radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi, who was shot by masked men in Dhaka. Hadi’s suspected killer, identified as Faisal Karim Masud, is currently on the run. Known for his anti-India rhetoric, Hadi had once advocated for creating ‘Greater Bangladesh’ — with present-day Bangladesh as well India’s Northeast. Meanwhile, caretaker Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus-led interim government mourned Hadi’s death, portraying the radical as a hero, and blaming ousted PM Sheikh Hasina’s supporters for the violence. Hasina meanwhile claimed that Islamists, not Yunus, are the real power in Dhaka right now.
