Former ambassador to Lebanon and Middle East expert Ian Parmeter warns a prolonged conflict with Lebanon could severely undermine Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election prospects.
“For Israel, it’s utterly vital, and for the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, utterly vital that all attacks from Lebanon into northern Israel cease,” Mr Parmeter told Sky News Australia.
“It’s particularly important this time because Israel faces an election and if the fighting is still going on in Lebanon, it actually will undermine his chances of winning that election.”
