Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Donald Trump’s reported diesel deal with Vladimir Putin as a “gift to Putin,” warning that easing pressure on Moscow could help prolong Russia’s war. The tensions escalated after a major fire broke out at Russia’s Yug Rusi oil-loading terminal in Rostov-on-Don on October 9, following a reported drone strike. Russian authorities acknowledged a fire and air-defence activity in the area but did not confirm damage to the terminal. Meanwhile, a senior Ukrainian official told the Financial Times that Kyiv would continue targeting Russian energy facilities, declaring, “We will burn their refineries.” Trump has defended the proposed Russian diesel supplies as a way to bring down U.S. fuel prices, while analysts have questioned whether the deal could deliver lasting relief.
