Five-year-old Lenna is battling mouth cancer and required proton beam radiation therapy, but despite Australia spending over $100 million on the equipment, the government has not delivered the promised treatment facility. Families are forced to apply for grants to travel overseas for treatment, with 11 out of 89 applications since 2021 being declined, leaving children like Lenna to receive less effective radiation therapy that causes lifelong damage.
