Finance Minister Katy Gallagher justifies the Department of Finance’s annual budget cut requests.
The Department of Finance has recently sent a letter to Australian government cabinet ministers and public service agency heads ordering them to identify potential spending cuts of up to five per cent of their annual budgets.
“The problem I’ve got is that there’s a lot of ministers wanting to do a lot of things … at some point you have to say we can’t just keep on giving you more money for things,” Ms Gallagher told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
“We did ask for them to come forward with essentially five per cent of their lowest priority work across their department.
“There hasn’t been any suggestion that we would cut five per cent.”
