Catherine Connolly elected as Ireland’s 10th President

Catherine Connolly has been elected president of Ireland with 63 per cent of the vote.

Connolly, a barrister from Galway and the third woman to hold the presidency, gained support through social media and public engagement.

The election saw low turnout and dissatisfaction among voters over a limited candidate pool, leading to a protest against the government.
