Speaking to The Guardian, the Aussie actor revealed that when he was first cast as Thor, he was tackling severe performance anxiety and panic attacks behind the scenes, and said he was “far more uncomfortable and goofy” than he wanted to appear.
To overcome these hidden battles, Hemsworth admitted he created a more “confident” version of himself for the public eye.
He said, “The character you see in interviews and the presentation of myself over the last two decades working in Hollywood, it’s me – but it’s a creation too. It’s what I thought people wanted to see.”
Hemsworth went on to say the physical changes he went through to play the God of Thunder – like training his body and lowering his voice – also helped.
He added, “I felt like, ‘Okay, cool, no one can f**k with me… Playing a god became a safety net. It fooled people into thinking I was that confident, that certain.”
