Protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s handling of electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are planned in Delhi and Mumbai on October 2, with security tightened around the proposed demonstrations. In Delhi, activists and student groups have called for a gathering at Jantar Mantar, while Delhi Police has denied permission and deployed additional personnel and barricades, with officials expecting potentially 3,000 to 4,000 people. In Mumbai, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has announced a “Jail Bharo Andolan” at Shivaji Park after permission issues, while the Election Commission has maintained that its three-member panel took SIR decisions unanimously. Firstpost tracks the protests, the voter-roll controversy and the growing political dispute over the Election Commission.
