A second wild seabird found along WA’s remote south coast has now tested positive for the dangerous H5N1 strain, intensifying concerns about bird flu creeping into Australia’s wildlife.
Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins says two species, a brown skua and a northern giant petrel, have returned confirmed results after testing at the CSIRO.
Both birds were discovered near Esperance, deep in the state’s south-east, prompting biosecurity teams to ramp up monitoring across the region.
