Dentist warns Aussies over ‘complications’ of popular Bali procedure | #yahoonewsau

Although the co-founder of Sydney’s Dental Boutique Dr Reuben Sim said that overseas dental work isn’t “automatically a bad idea”, he explained that issues tend to come from travellers “trying to compress a complex treatment into a short holiday.”

“You’re pressured to make decisions quickly and complete the dentistry fast before your flight home, when your teeth and gums may not respond appropriately from a biological standpoint.”

“Dentistry is not just a procedure itself. It’s about the diagnosis, the planning, the consent, the treatment, and, most importantly, the review and maintenance after.”

Dr Sim advised that since many Australian dentists are reluctant or unable to fix overseas work, patients should “Know exactly who is treating you, what procedure you’re really getting, what’s being put into your body, and who will look after you if things go wrong,” he said.

He reminded Australians that the cheapest option in the short term can still end up costing more, both in money and in the long‑term health of your teeth.
