Donald Trump rolls back food tariffs in an effort to lower the cost of groceries

US President Donald Trump has announced a rollback of tariffs including on Australian meat exports.

The move was made to help lower the cost of groceries for Americans.

The latest monthly index shows the average shopping cart now tops $150, which is nearly four per cent higher than a year ago.

President Trump announced on Friday that he was scrapping US tariffs on dozens of food items, including beef, coffee, and tropical fruits.
