Duane Davis sentenced to minimum 40 years jail for Tupac Shakur murder

Former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating 1996 fatal shooting of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur.

The sentencing finalises the prosecution of a long-unsolved murder that shaped the golden age of rap music.

Davis was tried and convicted for masterminding the murder to avenge the beating of his nephew by Shakur and members of his entourage inside a casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Within hours, Davis ushered his nephew and two other associates into a white Cadillac and went looking for Shakur according to an account Davis later gave police in an unrelated investigation.

Davis was given 20 years to life for each charge, of first-degree murder and deadly weapon enhancement.
