Dutch election: Centrist D66 party makes huge gains as far-right loses support

In shock general results in the Netherlands, current projections are showing the centrist-liberal D66 party in a tie for first place, with the far-right party of anti-immigration firebrand Geert Wilders.

It has been a sharp fall for Wilders’ Freedom Party and with other leaders refusing to work with him, it means D66’s leader Rob Yetten now has a chance to become the Netherlands’ youngest ever prime minister.
