The system may have helped transport heavy cargo, supply water and protect construction from dangerous floods. If confirmed, it would reveal an extraordinary level of hydraulic engineering in ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. But excavation and dating are still needed to prove whether the structures were truly connected to pyramid construction.
