European governments are expanding fuel relief as the Iran war and Ukraine conflict drive petrol and diesel prices sharply higher. An OECD assessment says seven of the ten countries taking the most active steps to limit the economic fallout are EU members. France has announced a €450 million support package, extending €100 fuel payments through year-end to 5.5 million eligible workers. Across Europe, governments are combining tax cuts, subsidies, transport incentives, energy-saving measures and temporary policy changes to cushion households and businesses. The response highlights the EU’s vulnerability to global energy shocks, as the bloc remains heavily dependent on imported oil and gas.
