Faruqi urges action on far-right extremism after ‘March for Australia’ rallies

Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi has accused her parliamentary colleagues of failing to act on far-right racism and encouraging hate following Sunday’s anti-immigration marches that were attended by tens of thousands of people across the country, including neo-Nazi demonstrators.

“These anti-immigration marches don’t happen in a vacuum … they cause real-world impact and real harm,” Faruqi said as she read out some of the hate messages she said she had received.

She also accused Labor and Liberal politicians of “vilifying” pro-Palestinian activists but ignoring neo-Nazis, saying: “I hope that is a wake-up call for all of you to change course and do something.”
