FIFA World Cup: Merlin the duck meets Mexican president

From streets to presidential palace: Merlin the duck has been dubbed the “mascot of the World Cup” by Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum after the two-year-old bird went viral for walking the streets of Mexico City wearing the team’s jersey and socks.

Social media users were quick to show Merlin support, with his videos quickly accumulating tens of thousands of views and comments from around the globe.

Speaking at the palace, Merlin’s owner Karla Ivette Gomez says his care consists of special duck food and a taco meal every Sunday.
