Firefighters and aerial crews in Ecuador’s capital have brought a major forest fire on Casitagua Hill approximately 75% under control, according to Quito Fire Department Captain Pablo Andino. Supported by military helicopters conducting water drops, around 100 firefighters battled strong wind gusts and dense dry brush across challenging terrain to suppress active hotspots threatening nearby residential zones and training academies. Emergency teams remain on site to cool residual embers and prevent re-ignition as severe dry weather conditions persist across the region.
