Former Matilda ‘proud’ of Women’s Asian Cup ticket sales

Sarah Walsh, former Matildas player and chief operating officer of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, said expecting stadiums always to sell out is “really dangerous” and not applied to men’s sport.

Despite comparisons to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Walsh urged critics to put expectations into perspective, noting this year’s tournament has already broken attendance records within the first six games.

The competition concludes on Saturday with hosts Australia facing world no. 6 Japan.
