From darkness to light: The free surgeries giving South Africans their sight back

Doctors in South Africa have conducted a marathon operation to restore the sight of more than 100 people performing life-changing cataract surgery on patients – some of whom had been waiting years for treatment.

Health groups say around 300,000 new cases are diagnosed every year in South Africa, with the country facing a backlog of over 240,000 people waiting for operations.
