A road safety education program is targeting Year 7 students in Western Australia using gaming technology to teach them about driving hazards before they get their licences. The initiative comes as 574 drivers aged 17-19 were killed or seriously injured between 2020 and 2024, with advocates including Samantha Safiotti, whose 15-year-old son died in a car crash. The program has reached 22,000 young people and aims to reduce fatalities among teenage drivers, more than 27,000 of whom obtained licences in WA in the past financial year.
