Have we just found black hole stars?
Astronomers may have found a brand-new kind of black hole hiding in the early universe. Using JWST, researchers spotted mysterious “little red dots” whose light looks more like a star than a galaxy. The best explanation is so-called black hole stars: supermassive black holes with a dense sphere of gas. If confirmed, this surprise discovery could solve a major mystery about how the first galaxies, and the earliest black holes, formed, forcing astronomers to rethink their origin story.
