Hundreds of police swarmed Melbourne’s CBD as four rival protest groups rallied in the streets.
Officers stopped opposing demonstrators from reaching each other for most of the day but there were clashes this afternoon.
Meanwhile, thousands of protesters took to the streets of other capital cities around the country.
The demonstrations were largely peaceful, with only one man arrested in Sydney.
