Lake St Clair has been fully mapped for the first time, answering a question scientists have been wondering for decades: Is it really Australia’s deepest lake?
The lake was carved out by glaciers over millions of years and is located in Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area.
CSIRO researchers spent more than a week producing the first 3D map of the underwater landscape and have finally confirmed the depth of the deepest point.
Spoiler alert: It’s really deep.
