Do you feel like you’re always being watched while you’re shopping? Well, you probably are.
Advocates are concerned a recent appeal by retailer Bunnings to a decision from the privacy commissioner will support the growth of facial recognition technology in Australia, despite a lacking privacy legislation framework.
The Albanese government released its response to the Privacy Act review in 2023, and promised to introduce reforms after the 2025 federal election, including the introduction of a “fair and reasonable test”.
But almost one year on from the election, these reforms have not been delivered.
