Hungary’s Prime Minister defies EU allies by meeting with Putin

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has defied the wishes of his European colleagues and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The pair met in Moscow to talk about the war in Ukraine and the Russian President’s upcoming meeting with the US.

The Hungarian Prime Minister is seen as one of Russia’s closest allies in Europe.

Mr Orban’s NATO and European Union partners believe his relationship with Russia is undermining them.

Hungary is under pressure from the European Union to end all imports of Russian energy by 2027.
