In Iran, petrol is cheaper than water. But that’s about the only good thing to say about Iran’s economy right now.
The ABC was recently granted rare access into the country by the Iranian government, but under certain conditions: we could not leave Tehran and we had to work with a pre-approved local media company and translator.
While there, we were able to freely speak with Iranians struggling with the economy. Our staff reached out to critics of the government separately and under condition of anonymity for their safety.
