There have been tensions between police and members of the Iranian community at Sydney airport as some supporters tried to pass messages on to members of Iran’s women’s football team, urging them to seek asylum. Members of the team arrived in Sydney and were transferred by bus to the international terminal, ahead of a flight leaving the country.

The ABC understands at least seven members of the team are now seeking asylum in Australia.
