Israeli airstrikes have destroyed the Rafi-Nia synagogue in Iran’s capital, Tehran.
The synagogue was a site of importance to Iran’s Jewish community, and was a prominent religious centre dating back to the Pahlavi era. Damaged copies of the Torah were found in the rubble.
During an early morning airstrike, the synagogue was hit by Israeli forces who later said the attack was aimed at a “senior military target” within the surrounding area.
