Israeli strikes across Lebanon kill at least 15 and destroy civilian infrastructure

As Lebanese Christians, who make up roughly a third of the population, marked Easter, the country experienced one of its most violent days since fighting with Israel erupted early last month.

At least 15 people were killed during the widespread Israeli strikes, according to the country’s health ministry. Civilian infrastructure and multiple residential buildings were reduced to rubble in the attacks.

On 4 April, Israel’s military said it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure as part of its ground invasion in southern Lebanon to secure what it claims is a “buffer zone”.

The Lebanese government has described the operation as a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

Israel’s attacks in Lebanon since the start of the war have killed more than 1,400 people, including 126 children, and displaced more than a million people, according to Lebanese authorities.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for negotiations to end the Hezbollah-Israel war as Israel continues to intensify its strikes, adding: “Our duty is to not let it get to how it got in Gaza.”
