Japan’s prime minister leads coalition to landslide election victory

In an historic sweep following a snap election, Japanese prime minister Sanae Takaichi’s governing coalition has secured what’s being called a “supermajority” in Japan’s lower house of parliament – according to exit polls.

The record result paves the way for Japan’s first female leader to pursue a more hardline agenda on immigration and China, while pushing for greater defence spending and tax cuts.
