Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has resigned amid calls for accountability after his government’s historic parliamentary election defeat.
Since Mr Ishiba took office in October 2024, his coalition has lost its majority in parliament.
Mr Ishiba will start the process to hold a party leadership vote for his successor.
