Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to “go for the next step” and sanction Israel, saying he respects Albanese’s “courage” for recognising Palestinian statehood and that the move “is the start of his legacy”.
“[Benjamin] Netanyahu’s coming at him and saying his legacy is ruined, and he is weak … it is the opposite,” Khawaja said.
“The prime minister has an opportunity right now to cement his legacy and to say that I fight for the people, I’m fighting for humanity.”
