Two Indian-origin students, Harshita Nair and Mahial Sran, lost their lives after being swept into the sea by powerful waves at California’s Bonny Doon Beach. The young women were reportedly resting near a coastal keyhole when dangerous surf pulled them into the water. A major rescue operation followed, involving volunteer swimmers, helicopters and emergency responders. Authorities have since warned beachgoers about hazardous conditions, including rip currents, sneaker waves, and rapidly rising tides. The tragedy has renewed concerns over safety along California’s coastline, where multiple rescues have been reported in recent weeks. Daniela Laurel tells you more on Spotlight.
