Six months into the war against Iran, a question is haunting Washington and its Gulf allies: Who is going to protect Saudi Arabia? Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu may have opened a new front against Tehran, but the consequences are now threatening to spill across the entire region. Enter the Houthis of Yemen. Armed with drones, missiles and an asymmetric warfare strategy, the Iran-aligned movement is turning up the heat on Riyadh and the forces fighting alongside it. Saudi military installations, critical infrastructure and oil assets are now at the centre of an escalating confrontation. And the battlefield is not limited to Saudi territory. Houthi attacks against Saudi-backed fighters in Yemen have added another layer to an already complicated conflict, with drones such as the Rajoum and Shawaz reportedly being used in the offensive. The pressure is mounting on Saudi Arabia’s international partners, too. Britain and Italy have deployed Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, while other Western and regional powers have contributed military personnel, equipment or defensive support to bolster the kingdom’s security. For Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, this is about far more than repelling drone attacks. It is a test of Saudi Arabia’s military preparedness, its regional alliances and its ability to protect its most critical assets against a determined adversary. Can MBS contain the Houthi threat? And why is a movement born out of Yemen proving so difficult for a coalition of powerful nations to counter? Watch the full report on From The Frontline by Firstpost.
