LIVE: Hormuz War Economy: Why Sailors Are Being Paid $25,000 To Cross The Strait | Firstpost

The Strait of Hormuz has become one of the world’s most expensive and dangerous oil routes. As the US-Iran confrontation continues, tanker operators are reportedly offering sailors as much as $25,000 for a single round trip through the strategic waterway. Commercial vessels are facing attacks, drones, GPS disruptions and the threat of operating inside an active war zone. Yet despite the risks, crude continues to flow out of the Persian Gulf. A new shipping system known as a ‘shuttle run’ is helping keep that oil moving. VLCCs enter the Persian Gulf, load crude, and make the dangerous journey back through Hormuz before transferring the cargo to another tanker outside the Gulf. Josh Barnes brings you the latest on Firstpost Live.
