Pakistan has carried out fresh airstrikes across eastern Afghanistan, targeting what it says were militant hideouts linked to the deadly Karachi Rangers headquarters attack. Islamabad claims 25 militants belonging to the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar faction were killed in precision strikes and ground operations across Paktia, Paktika and Kunar provinces. Afghanistan’s Taliban government, however, says the attacks killed and injured dozens of civilians, calling them an act of aggression. The strikes mark another major escalation in the long-running Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict that has intensified since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. The latest developments have also sparked a diplomatic row with India after Pakistan alleged an ‘Indian proxy’ was involved in the Karachi attack, an accusation New Delhi has firmly rejected.
