Russian military hardware took centre stage during Armenia’s Republic Day parade on May 28 as tensions continue over Yerevan’s growing ties with Europe and the West. The large-scale display featured Russian Su-30SM fighter jets, Mi-17V helicopters, Su-25 “Grach” attack aircraft, and TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy rocket launchers moving through central Yerevan. Armenia also showcased military systems from multiple countries including India’s Akash air defence system and ATAGS artillery platforms, highlighting its increasingly diversified defence partnerships. The parade unfolded amid growing friction between Moscow and the government of Nikol Pashinyan over Armenia’s closer engagement with the European Union. Russia has repeatedly warned that deeper EU integration may conflict with Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union as geopolitical competition intensifies across the South Caucasus.
