UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has strongly criticised US President Donald Trump over remarks suggesting NATO troops avoided frontline fighting in Afghanistan. Speaking in response, Starmer paid tribute to the 457 British service members who lost their lives during the conflict, calling Trump’s comments “insulting” and “appalling.” He stressed the sacrifices made by UK forces. The British Ministry of Defence said that more than 150,000 British personnel served in Afghanistan as part of the US-led mission following the 9/11 attacks. The comments have sparked backlash across NATO, with Prince Harry, Poland’s defence minister, and France’s armed forces minister also condemning the remarks and calling for respect for fallen soldiers. The White House has defended President Trump, stating the US has done more for NATO than any other member nation.
