Steven Freeland is an Australian attorney with the astronomical assignment of writing guidelines for outer space. There are now 90 space-faring nations battling it out in the cosmos, along with 14,000 live satellites and millions of space debris. Freeland chairs a United Nations committee of 110 member states, which has until 2027 to reach a unanimous agreement on interstellar laws.
